At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify personal advantages, barriers, and concerns about insulin therapy;
  2. State that different kinds of insulin preparations differ as to source, strength, and duration of action;
  3. State how to store insulin safely;
  4. State how to tell if a particular bottle of insulin is useable;
  5. List the available options for administering insulin;
  6. State the importance of accurate measurement of insulin dosage;
  7. State the importance of balancing food with insulin type;
  8. State the importance of timing of meals with insulin administration;

Method of Presentation

Patients will begin this session by answering 2-3 questions aligned with this content. The
presentation will be augmented and interactive by:

  • faculty asking reflective questions and using real-life examples;
  • participants submitting their queries through the chat box;
  • faculty answering questions either live in the case of a webinar or through contact/chat functions;

Content

Basic outline from “All About Insulin” in Life with Diabetes Curriculum. Content is updated from clinical experience, diabetes literature and ADA Standards of Care published annually. Patients with both T1D and T2D will be directed to this content however videos selected by the patient are based on their assessment and preferences.
